GREENSPHERE - ECO CLUB of IGIT

GREEN SPHERE is an environmental society formed by the engineering students of Indira Gandhi institute of Technology (IGIT), GGSIPU. Some of the objectives of this eco-club are:

· To keep an account of the activities going on in and around the college and rate them as harmful or safe for the healthy development of our environment.

· To acquaint upcoming engineers with the ways mankind is tampering with our mother nature.

· To come up with new technical ways of combating the current problem of ‘Global Warming’.

· To make the area in and around the campus a better place for the denizens.

· To take up real time awareness projects for the development of campus area.

Some initiatives taken by the society are as follows:
* Green Week(16th-20th March,2009):
Events organized- group discussion, JAM, Interactive session by ICPE, Paper-bag making competition, on the spot poster making, plantation drive.
* Ecológica (21st-22nd October,2009):
Events-‘An Inconvenient Truth’ by Al Gore (documentary screening), Theme Photography, ‘Green-up-the-junk’ Green Junkyard.
* Anti fire- cracker signature campaign in October, 2009.
* Introduced the Green theme in Xebec’10- Under this, workshops and seminars by NGOs like ICPE, WWF, TERI, CSE, & Swechha were conducted. A Green Fair was organized which showcased stalls of CSE, vermpet, recycled articles by NGO Parichay. ‘Enviromesh’- green junkyard was organized with the theme-‘ Kashmere Gate-how can the area be improved’.
Greensphere has worked with reputed NGO's like TERI, CSE, WWF, IYCN and ICPE.

TEAMS
Paper Recycling team- responsible for waste paper collection in bins set-up all over the campus.
Plastic Recycling team- responsible for placing bins in campus for collection of waste plastic objects such as pet bottles, cups, wrappers, etc.
Public Relations team- Dealing with external organizations to conduct various awareness programmes.
Vermi-Composting team- collection of stray leaves, kitchen waste, etc. to be composted in a pit.
Event Management team- assisting the coordinators in managing participants, ensuring adequate supply of items, etc. in all events.
Social-technical projects team-Doing environmental awareness activities outside the campus in the form of projects.
Greensphere plans to come with its own website when it gets ready.
