American Center presents "The Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs" Monologue y Mike Daisey
The Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs' World premiere of a monologue created and presented by Mike Daisey, master storyteller from USA Directed by Jean-Michele Gregory This monologue tells the story of Steve Jobs’ rise, fall, and rise again, industrial design, Apple, and is woven against where our technology is made and at what cost.
“The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs,” though at times hilarious, this will not be homage or hagiography — Steve Jobs is who he is because he is a brilliant and impossible man, exceedingly difficult, compelled to make the world fit into his vision. It is his inability to compromise that made Apple what it is today, both positively and negatively: Apple was posed to conquer the world, but ceded that monopoly to Microsoft, and now is poised on the cusp to redefine what computing is once more.
Telling the story of how one man, through will, changed the world to his liking... this is a story worth telling, and the theater is the place to tell it so that it can rise up out of the firmament of dusty business books and live as a mirror for all of us who use and are shaped by these tools, interfaces, and paradigms.
The American media raves about Mike Daisey:
"A charismatic performer, his shows have the insightful hostility of the best comedy." THE NEW YORKER
"Sharp-witted, passionately delivered talk…… at once utterly individual and achingly universal." BOSTON GLOBE
"A monologuist who always threatens to burst out of his chosen form—funny, literate and provocative." CHICAGO TRIBUNE
"There is nothing minimalist about this monologuist—if Lenny Bruce was embodied by Zero Mostel and played by Louis Armstrong, the result would closely resemble Mike Daisey." BROADWAY WORLD
